Western Civ is a podcast inspired by the history courses of Adam Walsh’s youth. It is a podcast in the survey tradition, intended to provide an introduction to 6,000 years of history.
From the earliest dawn of civilization along the banks of the Nile River in Egypt and across the Fertile Crescent, Western Civilization bloomed through Greece and Rome, staggered through the Middle Ages and Black Death, before rebounding in the Renaissance to create a flowering of culture that still influences our world today. It is a story of epic proportions. It is a story of heroes, men like Julius Caesar and Richard the Lionheart, women like Eleanor of Aquitaine and Joan of Arc. It is a story villains from the mad King Charles VI of France to the cruel Emperor Caligula. And more than anything it is a story about the remarkable value of the human spirit.
