Bonus: Modern Medicine and the Black Death

Medieval medicine failed spectacularly to deal with the Black Death in 1347. Unfortunately for Europe, as we know, the Black Death was cyclical. So, Europe had better get ready to do better in the future. And, for once, I have good news. They actually did! After 1352, the medical institutions of Europe, long dominated by the Catholic Church, moved away from philosophical study and towards practice and observation. In other words, medicine, after 1350, started to become a science. So, in this episode, we take a look at how medicine changed and why.
